Animal lovers were pumped to have their trustee companions join them at the 27th Annual Walk for Animals and Furry 5K Saturday.

The event which was sponsored by WDIO, had hundreds of people come together at Bayfront Festival Park to raise money for Animal Allies Humane Society's mission to save lives of homeless pets.

The goal was to raise $55,000 this year. The event is considered the second largest fundraiser of the year for the organization.

"It's about the community coming together to support something they believe in and Duluth is such a strong pet loving community that it's so much fun to see people come out," Michelle Sternberg, a development officer for Animal Allies Humane Society, said.

The family and pet friendly event featured music, games, food and fun pet contests. The weather was perfect for folks and their pets to enjoy the day.
