Grandma's race weekend is right around the corner and one of the best parts of finishing the race is the hardware racers get to commemorate it.

After 44 years, the race medals are something Grandma's has become known for.

"It starts on paper every year and there's an entire theme developed around grandma's marathon," says Executive Director of Grandma's Marathon, Shane Bauer.

And after a year of unprecedented changes in the world, not to mention grandma's first virtual race in 2020, this year's medal also boasting a first.

"The traditional logo, we rebranded to include a female runner for the first time in the history of Grandma's marathon," said Bauer. "So we wanted to highlight that on this year's medal for the 45th."

We can expect to see thousands of runners donning their own medals soon.
