Zeitgeist is launching a series of events and programming throughout 2019 dedicated to highlighting women’s stories, perspectives, and experiences titled the Year of the Womxn. Zeitgeist is committed to making their programming inclusive to all women, and as such the Year of the Womxn planning committee decided to spell ‘woman’ a little differently- with an ‘x’ replacing the ‘a.’  This spelling has become a trend globally over the last few years and attempts to acknowledge the exclusion of many women throughout society and historical feminist movements.  They are working with supporting partners from across the community including Feminist Action Collective, UMD’s Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies Department, and Black Bird Revolt.  Zeitgeist hopes Year of the Womxn will showcase that women can, and do, hold positions of power, leadership, and influence across our community. This programming is an opportunity for anyone who wishes to bring their sons, daughters, wives, husbands, parents, and friends to hear from, learn from, and connect with the number of exceptional women leaders and committed community members from across the Duluth region. Zeitgeist hopes to highlight women who exemplify civic participation, creative leadership, and commitment to community.
