This event is free and open to the community. There will be free Japanese food samples, a chance to try on a kimono, and some traditional New Year's activities.

The year 2019 marks the 31st year of the current emperor's reign, but it will also be his last, as Emperor Akihito is expected to abdicate his throne on April 30, 2019.

The celebration is on Monday, Jan. 28 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Superior.
