After a delayed start, the Lake Superior & Mississippi Railroad season opened on Saturday.

The LS&M offers tourist excursion rides along the St. Louis River with the 1946 Switch Engine and 100-year-old coaches providing a leisurely trip over part of the original 1870's tracks into Duluth.

"This organization is about 40-years-old. It's all volunteers, and we maintain the track, the city owns the track, and we lease it from them, and then we maintain it and provide the rides," said LS&M Vice President of Engineering Dave Moore.

The LS&M will be offering rides on Sunday as well at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Ticket information and schedules for that trip and others throughout the season is available here.

Veterans & active military ride free on Sundays, according to the LS&M website.
