A 911 caller reported the man unresponsive in Long Lake, in Glen Township, on Sunday.  The sheriff's office says a father and son brought the man to shore and began CPR, and despite continued lifesaving efforts by an ambulance crew, the man died.

The kayaker was identified as Paul A. Mott, 62, of Bloomington, Minnesota.

The men who brought the kayaker to shore told deputies that they had seen him fishing earlier in the day and that he was wearing a life vest.  The next time they saw him, he was face down in the water and the kayak was on its side.

The preliminary finding of the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office is that Mott died of freshwater drowning.
