The Great Northern Classic Rodeo is happening throughout Labor Day weekend at the Head of the Lakes fairground. For over 30 years, the event has only grown and gotten better through the help of volunteers.

Nova Nordum, a board member of the Great Northern Classic Rodeo, said during the Pandemic really affected the number of volunteers.

“We actually had to take a year off during the COVID pandemic. And it it has been a challenge since then,” Nordum said. “We are 100% volunteer driven organization. Tonight and tomorrow night, we’ll have silent auctions. We will donate the proceeds to our local Breast cancer foundation.”

The proceeds from the silent auction happening Saturday night will help go towards Youth and Veteran organizations in Suprior.

Hallie Stalvig, the 2023 Great Northern Classic Rodeo Queen, said that there’s fun for everyone. “Definitely come check it out. The events are great,” Stalvig said. “Our style is pretty interactive with the crowd. This year we’ve got a little t-shirt launchings.”

Events like barrel racing, mutton busting and silent auctions, are just some of the fun events this weekend. Nordum also said people are still welcome to help volunteer this weekend and can head down to the fairgrounds or sign up online.
