23-year-old Nicholas Walberg was climbing a rock ledge Monday afternoon when he fell.

A group of girls from Camp Ajawah saw the fall and told their counselor, who called 911.

"I said we saw someone fall on the Minnesota side of the St Croix River," counselor Emily Baker said. "At first when I didn't see him moving I thought he was just gone, but after he started moving I was really thankful. We called 911 and help was on the way."

Walberg was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he is listed in critical condition.

Interstate State Park is a popular spot for rock climbing.
