The Thunder Bay Police Service says the man was driving by a collision on Tuesday night at the corner of John and High streets when he slowed down and held his phone out of the window to record video.  Police say the driver obstructed traffic and drove right up to first responders at the scene.

Officers stopped the driver and gave him a ticket for driving while holding a communication device.  He faces a possible $615 fine and a three-day license suspension if convicted.

"Police would like to remind the public to ensure they are not driving distracted, even if they believe they see a viral opportunity," the police service said in a news release.

The incident took place a day after Ontario law enforcement agencies kicked off a campaign targeting distracted driving.
