The trade fair gave students hands on experience with 14 local union apprenticeship representatives to learn about trades such as sheet metal, roofing, painting, brick laying, carpentry, and electrical.

"We do this to make more awareness for the community, for the students that construction trades are a viable solution, a path if you will," said Stan Paczynski, Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local Union 1 Business Representative.

Hailey Coda, Duluth East sophomore, says she wasn't interested in the trade industry before the fair, but now says she may consider it.

"I think it's cool how little schooling that it requires, little debt, and how much money you can make coming out of it," said Coda.

Liam Gaeuman, Duluth East sophomore, says he is thinking of going into the trade industry, and wants to see what options are available in the future.

"There's a lot of pressure for students to go to college and saying, 'this is where you need to go, and a lot of this stuff is almost frowned upon in some ways, it's not really known,'" said Gaeuman.

Paczynski believes it's important for students to be at the fair, as he says not a lot of people in society even know what an apprenticeship is.

"An apprenticeship is an opportunity for students and younger adults to get into a career and earn while they learn," said Paczynski.

At the end of the day, he wants students to know there is an alternative to college available.

"We just want the message to be out that we are a viable opportunity to do something else," said Paczynski.

Construct Tomorrow will continue Wednesday from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.
