Tenant displaced after fire damages Esko apartment building

The Red Cross is assisting in the displacement of a tenant in Esko after a fire badly damaged an apartment there Sunday afternoon.

At 3:10 p.m. Carlton County dispatch received numerous 911 calls reporting a structure fire at 157 W HWY 61.

Firefighters from the Esko Fire Department made entry and found fire in the front apartment of the building.

No one was found inside. The tenant was contacted and confirmed that no one was home and there were no pets present.

There was significant fire and smoke damage to the apartment.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
