Structure fire destroys Carlton Co. home, displaces family

A Carlton County home and garage were extensively damaged from a Saturday morning fire.

Around 2 am, the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a detached garage on fire at 21 Ridge Road in Thomson Township.

The Esko, Carlton, and Wrenshall Fire Departments responded. Firefighters found the garage fully engulfed with fire, and steady winds caused the fire to quickly spread to the residence. All of the occupants were out of the residence and there were no pets inside.

Firefighters deemed the garage and residence a total loss.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Minnesota Fire Marshall’s Office and the CarltonCounty Sheriff’s Office. The cause of the fire is undetermined but is not suspicious.

The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
