The Minnesota Historical Society has expanded options to visit Split Rock Lighthouse as state restrictions ease.

The changes were effective Friday, the same day the state of Minnesota formally eliminated indoor capacity limits and social distancing requirements. The lighthouse had begun limited weekend tours in March after an earlier closure due to the pandemic.

The lighthouse is now open for general admission from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with guided tours available at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The guided tour lasts an hour and is limited to ten people.

General admission for self-guided tours is $8 to $12 while guided tours cost $25. An $8 grounds pass is also available for people who don't wish to enter the lighthouse.

Tickets can be purchased in advance through the Historical Society website or by calling 651-259-3015. While tickets are available for walk-up purchase, the Historical Society cautions that the number of walk-up tickets may be limited.

Admission to the lighthouse and its grounds is separate from Split Rock Lighthouse State Park, which uses standard state park admission fees.
