Greenway, Bigfork/Grand Rapids, and Nashwauk/Keewatin school districts all say as things stand right now, they would be starting the year with in-person instruction.

Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig would be starting online while Deer River school district would be in a hybrid model.

Officials want to reinforce schools reopening is dependent on community members following safety guidelines.

"We need our community members now more than ever to do their part, to stay safe from the spread of COVID-19. Our schools reopening is dependent on our behavior," said Itasca County Public Health Division Manager Kelly Chandler.

Chandler adds that face coverings will be required in all Itasca County schools.

School leaders want to make sure that kids wear masks, and say their compliance will go a long ways in making sure schools are able to stay open.

"It is very important that we maintain our ability to open, and not move into distance learning. We know that every model can meet students' needs in certain ways, but we all know that being in an in-person environment in an educational setting is the best model for our students," said Greenway Public Schools Superintendent David Pace.

The Bigfork/Grand Rapids school board approved plans Thursday afternoon for all students to return to the classroom.
