MnDOT contractors on Monday took the first steps to address the Highway 169/Highway 65 intersection in Nashwauk where two teens were killed last summer.
Crews started on Monday putting out traffic control cones in preparation of construction beginning Tuesday.
The goal of the project is to square up the intersection to create better sight lines, and eliminated the skewed view at the Hwy 169/Hwy 65 intersection.
A left turn lane will be added on Hwy 169 to square up traffic crossing the highway into Nashwauk.
The project will be done in three stages.
Stage 1 (July 6-16)
Stage 2 (Anticipated July 13-August 7)
Stage 3 (Anticipated August 10-September 4)
MnDOT says lane closures will be in place during construction.
MnDOT estimates the cost of the project at $436,000.
