Minnesota Highway 1 has reopened and most fire restrictions have been dropped as cooler, wetter weather reduces fire danger in northeastern Minnesota.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation reported that Highway 1 reopened Monday. The road had been closed west of Isabella for about a month due to the Greenwood fire.

MnDOT advised drivers to be aware of continuing fire suppression efforts in the area.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources dropped wildfire-related burning restrictions in Cook and Lake counties, except for the Greenwood Fire area. The Arrowhead had been the last part of Minnesota where restrictions on campfires and open burning had remained.

The DNR cautioned that fall is traditionally a dry time in Minnesota and rules for burning could change again.
