One person was killed and two people suffered life threatening injuries following a head-on crash on I-35 near Hinckley on Friday afternoon.

The Minnesota State Patrol said a Kia Sportage was driving northbound on I-35 and a Mitsubishi Endeavor was driving southbound on I-35. Authorities say the Mitsubishi Endeavor drifted into the median and crossed it, hitting the Kia Sportage.

The driver of the Kia Sportage, who has been identified as 45-year-old David Thomas Greiner of Garfield, Minnesota, died at the scene.

The driver of the Mitsubishi Endeavor was identified as 21-year-old Tabitha Sue Sigler of Cambridge. She was brought to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with life threatening injuries.

Additionally, a passenger in the Mitsubishi Endeavor was identified as 36-year-old Santino Hilario Chavez of St. Paul. He was brought to North Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries.

The crash also closed a portion of northbound I-35 Friday evening.

Authorities say it isn't known whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
