If you were in grade school again, what would you do to get the change to launch a water balloon at your teacher?

For Esko students, that dream became a reality Friday night. On the playground blacktop, students pelted gym teacher Bridget Vesel-Johnson with as many water balloons as they could!

Why?  Esko students grades K-5 worked hard to raise over $37,367 for the American Heart Association's Kids Heart Challenge.  Out of 235 participating schools in Minnesota, Esko placed first in the state for number of lives saved.  The American Heart Association figures it costs $50 to train one person in CPR, knowing CPR can save lives.

The money raised by Esko students will help to save 741 lives.

"These kids are amazing," Vesel-Johnson said. "They enjoy it. I enjoy it. I love their enthusiasm and its just a whole lot of fun"

Vesel-Johnson says out of all the kids participating, 64 students actually raised over $200 a piece, to save at least four lives. Esko placed 24th in the nation.

It is Vesel-Johnson's 18th year participating in this event and Esko Elementary has raised roughly $245,000.

Way to go, Esko! And shoutout to Bridget Vesel-Johnson for being a good sport!
