The International Falls Fire Chief says a Sunday night fire at the PCA Paper Mill was likely caused by a citywide power outage.

"It's looking like that is the case. It seems to be related to the fire at the mill," Chief Adam Mannausau told WDIO News.

Mannausau says the outage caused the Number 1 paper making machine at the mill to come to a sudden stop, which it isn't built to do. That then caused the fire.

Mannausau told the Northland FireWire that the fire burned up some paper, and caused damage to the Number 1 paper making machine.

Crews responded to the scene at 5:09 Sunday afternoon.

No injuries were reported, and the scene was cleared a little after 10:00 Sunday night.

Littlefork Fire Department, International Falls Fire Department, Lake Kabetogama Fire Department, International Falls Police Department, and Koochiching County Sheriff responded to the scene.

Mannausau says he "appreciates the partnerships" between the departments.

The International Falls Ambulance Service also responded to provide medical standby.
