Another sign of spring. The Duluth Seaway Port Authority announced that the first laker has left the Twin Ports.

According to the port, the Burns Harbor departed around 2am on Sunday. She was loaded up with iron ore in Superior, and left via the Superior entry for Indiana. American Steamship owns the vessel.

The Soo Locks will open at midnight on Wednesday.

Built in 1980, the Burns Harbor was also the last commercial vessel into the Port of Duluth-Superior to close the 2019 shipping season, arriving Jan. 16.
