Grand opening of Mineview in Hibbing celebrates new visitor center

Mineview in Hibbing celebrates milestone, ready to open for the season

A look at the new Mineview overlook in Hibbing, which culminates a decade of work.

A beautiful start to the weekend with a ribbon cutting at the Hull Rust Mahoning Mineview in Hibbing.

The new visitor center is now ready and waiting to greet you when you arrive. It boasts a beautiful space where you can shop for souvenirs, as well as look out into the massive mine pit.

“It’s more than just a beautiful view. It’s a history lesson, and a geology lesson. An indigenous story. And a tribute to cancer survivors,” shared Mayor Pete Hyduke.

This project has been a decade in the making, and done in phases.

The original Mineview closed due to the need to mine there. Cleveland-Cliffs built the road up to the new site. Iron Range Resources and bonding money helped support the efforts, as did foundations and mining vendors.

About 40,000 people visit each year from across the world.

It’s staffed by volunteers like Mike Kay from the Hibbing Tourist Center Senior Citizens. “We are thrilled, it turned out terrific,” he said.

The Mineview officially opens their new center on Saturday!
