Why you should add ‘nothing’ to your schedule
Have you ever considered adding ‘nothing’ to your schedule? Mary Morehouse, an therapist for Insight Counseling Duluth, says that boredom has its benefits.
“It’s not meditation, which is intentional, right? This is just having our mind stimulated by doing something else,” Mary explained on The Lift, the first step is put your phone away. Then you should use your senses to reset your mind,
It’s good for you and the same reason why you get good ideas in the shower or driving. Mary says the constant productivity also increases cortisol and emotional exhaustion, despite our cultural norm telling us that it’s good.
“We have to prioritize (doing nothing) as important for our physical and mental health, just like anything else we do,” Mary suggests building some time to do nothing into your calendar to increase your creativity too.
