What’s Brewing: Fika Coffee headquarters

Fika Coffee has long been sourcing, roasting, and brewing coffee. But over the past year, Josh Lindstrom and the team have been brewing something else: a new headquarters.

“This is a dream I guess that’s becoming physical. It’s becoming a reality. So this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This is Fika headquarters,” Lindstrom said. “So that’s where we can roast coffee, we can host people, we can continue to build our community within Fika, with our friends, our surrounding community.”

The headquarters will be tucked in a wooded area just up the hill from downtown Grand Marais. It backs up to snowmobile, ski, biking, and hiking trails. The main coffee shop is off of Hwy 61 in Lutsen.

In Lutsen, the Fika Coffee crew has been prepping, roasting, bagging, and serving customers in about 900 square feet. They’re excited to expand. The build of the new headquarters is funded with grants, business money, a loan from a friend, and an SBA loan. But Lindstrom is fundraising to “make this place a home.”

“Generosity has been a main vein in our business, even when it first started. And we just want to give that opportunity so when people give and they donate, small or large, then they come and visit us, we just want them to be connected, to be involved,” Lindstrom said.

Fundraising dollars would go toward things like an espresso machine. So far, Fika has raised about $55,000 of the $150,000 goal.
