What happens to loyalty rewards when you die?

Many of us receive awards from travel partners, airline miles, and credit cards. Can we pass these “savings” on to a loved one when we die? Michelle Buria, a Certified Financial Planner for Choreo, says the answer may be in the fine print and depends on each company or card’s program. For example, United Airlines allows for a transfer, but Southwest does not.

Michelle, though not an attorney herself, suggests having a conversation with your lawyer about writing a clause into your will. Making sure those rewards go to a loved one can be made easier by telling them about the accounts and writing the login information down for them.
