The story of Acme Comedy, the ‘Home Club’

Patrick Strait stops by The Lift to explain what it means to be a comedy reporter - and to make us laugh.

Acme Comedy Club is known around the country as a great place to see comedy acts.

But the Minneapolis venue hasn’t had a smooth path to sold-out shows. Comedy beat reporter Patrick Strait wrote “Home Club: Up-and-Comers and Comebacks at Acme Comedy Company,” telling the story of the Chinese immigrant, Louis Lee, who built the club into what it is today.

Acme has helped launch the careers of famous comedians like Duluth native Maria Bamford, and Mitch Hedberg and Nick Swardson.

Strait will sign copies from 12-2 p.m. Saturday at the Bookstore at Fitger’s.
