The history of the Hotel Chequamegon

The Hotel Chequamegon was originally built in 1877 at the height of the logging and mining booms, but was destroyed by fire in 1958. The new building was built in 1986.

The Hotel Chequamegon in Ashland may look like it’s from a different era, but was built in 1986.

The Victorian-like design pays homage to the original hotel that was built during the height of Wisconsin’s logging and mining booms and destroyed by a fire on New Year’s Day in 1958. This was in what is now Menards Park.

The Hotel frequently makes lists of haunted Wisconsin places. Although the hotel manager says he’s never seen or heard anything out of the ordinary. Many patrons are enthusiastic about the possibility of encountering something paranormal.
