No postage needed: Leave food donations for your letter carrier

Duluthians are getting ready for the Stamp Out Hunger food drive, the City's first food drive since 2019.

This Saturday, letter carriers will pick up more than mail on their routes.

The National Association of Letter Carriers will pick up food donations from porches and mailboxes.

George Rennan is organizing the drive locally, which will benefit organizations like Chum, Union Gospel Mission, the Salvation Army, and the Proctor Food Shelf.

“There is now an incredible need for food,” Rennan said. “Right now, it’s like one out of five families are having problems just with nutrition alone. This whole community is in need.”

Cloquet and Superior are getting food drives going too.

Letter carriers are asking for nonperishable food to be put in a plastic bag and left out by your mailbox by 9 a.m. on Saturday. Volunteers will help the mail delivery crew and come by to collect the bags.
