Navy Ceremonial Guard serves a purpose

Watch as members of the United States Navy Ceremonial Guard perform on The Lift. This is the official ceremonial unit of the Navy, established in 1931.

The United States Navy Ceremonial Guard is adding to the impressive display of precision during Duluth Navy Week.

The guard was established in 1931, and its member participate in some of the nation’s most prestigious ceremonies. They did the “Concert on the Avenue” performance that they frequently do in Washington, D.C.

A sailor from Duluth, Aaron Padden, is a Ceremonial Guard member. He said it takes “a lot of hours” to perform with such precision.

“Each one of us has about 1,000 hours of practice learning how to spin,” Padden said. “It’s also really fun to do drill.”

He said it becomes more of a hobby than a job.
