Look out for the Leap Frogs this week

The U.S. Navy Parachute Team is in Duluth for the Navy Week experience as well as the Duluth Air Show.

When Duluthians look to the skies this week, it could be a bird, a plane, or a Leap Frog.

The United States Navy Parachute team is in the Twin Ports for Navy Week and the Duluth Airshow.

The Leap Frogs hop out of a plane at 12,000 feet and land precisely in a stadium, field, or wherever they’re asked. This week, they’ll drop in to the Duluth Huskies game on Tuesday night, Wednesday Night at the Races Wednesday evening, Fourth Fest at Bayfront Park on Friday, and the airshow on Saturday and Sunday.

After a practice jump Monday morning, Cody Rochon said he found Duluth to be welcoming and warm.

“The weather’s beautiful, the people in the town are fantastic to be around,” Rochon said. “The jump was magnificent, getting to see Lake Superior and the town below was amazing.”

The Leap Frogs already have years of experience in real-world special operations before they join the demonstration team. They serve for three years and then return to their units.
