Local author’s series contains mental health message

Local author, Dennis James talks about his book, "Hunter."

The second book in Denis James’ Arcane Rebellion series is out, and he hopes it continues a conversation about mental health.

“Hunter” is the sequel to “Tobias.” The first book is about a teacher that tries to save a group of students from a school building on fire, only to find his best friend inside lighting the fire. The second book picks up where the first left off with more about the friend and why he’s behaving that way.

James’ reason for writing both is to bring awareness to mental health issues.

“I wanted to write a series of books to help people realize, hey, this is normal. This is very much something people can relate to,” James said.

James lives in Superior and is also a local teacher. He’ll celebrate the release of “Hunter” on Independent Bookstore Day. Foxes & Fireflies Booksellers in Superior will host an event from 1-3 p.m. Saturday. James will sell and sign books and host a Q&A that will include a nod to the start of Mental Health Awareness Month in May.
