In Otter News: The SeaQuest reptile roommates
Rescued animals from SeaQuest are still adjusting to their new homes at the Lake Superior Zoo. Right now they have a python and a tegu, which is a type of lizard, staying at the Griggs Learning Center.
Their python is not fully grown yet but their Ambassador Animal keep Daniel Johnson said the snake species is huge.
“These guys on an average could get upwards of 22 feet. Our guy here is actually not fully grown yet… We believe he’s around 8 or 9 feet right now, but we do expect him to grow significantly more right now,” he says.
The tegu they rescued currently has a bacterial infection in her gums the the Lake Superior Zoo keepers are treating.
“We as keepers, more than anything, we strive to A: know the natural history of these animals, what we could expect them to behave like in the wild. And then also B: learn the animals’ personal behaviors so that we can provide them the best possible care here,” says Dan.
