Gardening in small spaces
UMD’s Plant the Revolution club is showing The Lift how to garden in small spaces.
You can start seeds in trays or even an egg carton. A seed starting mix can also give your plants the jump start they need to thrive.
The club’s president, Abby Magruder, shows us a few of the seeds she started in her apartment, cucumbers and spinach. The cucumbers will eventually be transferred to an outside plot. but the spinach could continue to grow on a windowsill.
Her advice is to watch out for water and even use a water meter, “This is what I use to make sure they’re not too wet or too dry. Or there’s water sitting at the bottom. (Water meters) are pretty cheap.”
UMD’s Plant the Revolution’s mission is to show students where food comes from and ways grow sustainably. They also involved in UMD’s Land Lab
