Forest bathing and its benefits
Have you ever heard of nature bathing? Mary Morehouse is telling us more about this wellness practice.
Forest bathing is a Japanese wellness practice that means taking the forest atmosphere through all of your senses. Insight Counseling therapist Mary Morehouse explains, “It’s not hiking. It’s not exercise.”
All you have to do is find a natural spot. Duluth has plenty of places to go with over 160 natural areas. Enjoy your senses. “Unplug. Put your phone on silent. Take out your airpods and do not listen to anything,” Mary encourages us to walk slowly and aimlessly.
Forest bathing can help reduce stress and lower cortisol. Your heart beat may slow and your blood pressure goes down.
