Food Truck Friday: Kona Ice of Duluth

Food Truck Friday: Kona Ice

Kona Ice is one of the newest food trucks to hit the streets of Duluth and the North Shore.

Kona Ice is one of the newest food trucks to hit the streets of Duluth and the North Shore.

Matt and Liz Smith of Two Harbors own it, and it’s run with the help of their kids.

“It’s be good, do good, for good,” Maddie Hammond said of the slogan. “Being able to have people come up, smiles on their faces, and giving them a cup of joy, that’s more than I could ever ask for.”

Kona Ice started in 2007 with a mission of fundraising for schools and youth sports. Matt picked up his truck on May 1 and is just starting to pop up and sell Konas.

The truck will be at several big events around the Northland this summer:

  • June 2-3: Two Harbors High School
  • June 11: Bayfront Festival Park (Alison Krauss concert)
  • Fridays in July and August: Duluth Movies in the Park
  • July 9-10: Downtown Duluth Sidewalk Days
  • July 11-13: Two Harbors Heritage Days
