Food Truck Friday: Blue Sky Coffee
Blue Sky Coffee keeps people caffeinated out of a camper.
Casey Kinnunen is the owner and self-taught barista. She’s always like coffee, but a food truck came as a bit of a surprise.
“This actually happened to just kind of fall into our laps. A friend had this, and she was getting rid of it. She had a new baby,” Kinnunen said. “So it just worked out.”
One of her best-selling drinks is called the “Good Friend,” made with vanilla, caramel, and white chocolate. Other drinks have names like “Birdsong” and “Beach Day.”
“They were things that make me happy,” Kinnunen said.
She made a list and whatever seemed to fit a drink best became its name. Besides java, Blue Sky Coffee serves tea, energy drinks, hot chocolate, and Italian cream sodas.
Her reason for spending around six months a year in the trailer is simple.
“I love giving people something that will make them happy,” Kinnunen said. “Coffee makes you happy. It makes you smile. So that’s basically it.”
She posts their schedule on Facebook and Instagram. Blue Sky Coffee will be at the Red Pine Campground in Saginaw from 8 to 10:30 Saturday morning.
