Eleven iconic Wisconsin road trips
Tom and Kristi Manus, authors of “Secret Wisconsin,” just released a new book called “Historic Wisconsin Roadsides.”
“We created 11 routes throughout the state with 80 towns and the areas surrounding the towns and over 1,200 things to do and see, places to eat and stay, that we handpicked ourselves,” Tom said.
Some of their favorite stops include the Zippin’ Pippin’, Elvis’ favorite roller coaster that is now in Green Bay; the Holiday Music Motel in Sturgeon Bay; and the Yo-Yo Museum in Luck.
“In Spooner, at the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad, they recently acquired one of only two Montana Ranch train cars that have been restored,” Tom said. “Originally, they built six in 1951 that went on the Empire Builder line from Chicago to Seattle. So there’s only two left that are restored, they have one.”
Kristi said they love to road trip because you can stop and explore.
“We’ve been road tripping ever since we’ve been married,” she said. “But we like to go back roads and two-lane highways because that’s where you really find the unique things that you just don’t see everywhere.”
