Dreamcasting for retirement

Dreamcasting for retirement

In a conversation about retirement, Choreo financial planner Michelle Burria emphasizes the importance of balancing financial planning with personal aspirations. While crunching numbers is essential, understanding one's dreams and desires for retirement is equally crucial.

Even as a Certified Financial Planner, Michelle Buria with Choreo knows retirement isn’t just about the numbers.

“A lot of my time is spent talking to clients about their dreams,” Buria said. “What are your hopes and dreams and wishes that you want to do in retirement? Because it’s different for everyone. There’s no one right way.”

She encourages clients and anyone to “dreamcast” for retirement with questions like:

  • Who would I like to spend my time with?
  • What gives my life purpose?
  • How will I stay active and healthy?
  • What skills might be valuable for a second career or volunteer work?

“Retiring is really difficult mentally,” Buria said. “I have helped so many clients on the mental aspect of retiring because we can have all the numbers in place, but it’s the whole process of I’m no longer going to work and doing what I’ve done for 30-40 years.”
