Ashland’s newest wedding venue goes from loans to love

The Union has been transformed from a bank to a wedding venue with boutiques and a home decor store.

Ashland’s newest wedding venue, The Union, used to be a bank. The restoration was a labor of love for founder Jeanne Aspensen and her husband, who says nearly everything needed to be redone.

Jeanne previously renovated a barn into a wedding venue, so she has done this before. The selling point for The Union was the skylights at the top of the historic building. Jeanne tells The Lift, “It needed to be enjoyed by the public.”

It’s not just for weddings, they’ll host all sorts of events. The building also has a boutique and home decor shop as tenants.

And why Ashland? Jeanne says it’s because of the warm community. Plus, she has a personal connection, “(My husband and I) honeymooned up here 30 years ago. We come back every five years.”
