Peer pressure is the simple answer for why Duluth's Missy Cattel signed up for this year's Gary Bjorklund Half Marathon. This year would have marked her first time ever running in one of Grandma's races. She's volunteered for years, but was excited to be a runner among the 2020 crowd. That was until COVID-19 had other plans.
Ayden Lonetto, a 2nd grader at Duluth's Raleigh Edison Academy, ran the William A. Irvin 5K virtually Tuesday afternoon. Grandma's Marathon races were canceled due to COVID-19.
Grandma's Marathon is adding a new Halloween-themed 5k race on Oct. 26 in Superior. It will start and end near the Top Hat Tavern, and the course will feature themed areas along the route. Runners are encouraged to wear costumes.
Net proceeds from the Park Point 5-Miler benefit the Young Athletes Foundation (YAF), a Grandma’s Marathon program focused on the promotion and development of healthy and active lifestyles for youth throughout the region.
Grandma's Marathon has seen some of the fastest times in the last decade. Because of that, we've seen numerous course records fall. This Saturday was no different as athletes raced some of the fastest times Grandma's Marathon has seen.
Staff and volunteers were in Canal Park Sunday cleaning up the mess that comes after Grandma's Marathon ends. Crews were taking down tents, stages, sorting out trash, recycling, and more.
