University of Minnesota researchers have created a new type of apple.

The Triumph is a cross between Honey Crisp and Liberty apples. David Bedford, an apple breeder at The U, says this process can take 30 years and is like hitting the genetic lottery.

The first seeds will be planted this spring and the new apples should appear in grocery stores in the next three to four years.
