The 17th annual Sidewalk Shuffle 5K returns
Get ready to shuffle, strut or sprint as the annual Sidewalk Shuffle 5K returns. This morning, Sierra Naess was joined by Sara Cole, the President and CEO of the Duluth Area Family YMCA and Johnny Casper, the Sidewalk Shuffle Event Director and Director of Healthy Living at the Downtown Y, to talk all about it.
Kasper started out by sharing why people should come out and support to this year’s event, “We’re raising money for the Downtown Y and our financial assistance program. I love that this event encourages everyone to join, you don’t have to go at a certain pace to come out and support,” he said.
Cole went on to explain what participants can expect for this year, “You don’t need to be a sprinter or an Olympian to take part. At the Y, we truly believe that all bodies are healthy bodies. You’re welcome to come out with a stroller, with your friends, with your work team, be speedy, or go at your own pace,” she said.
Both emphasized that this event is about community, cheering people on, and doing something fun to support your neighbors in Duluth.
“One of the things we’re most proud of at the YMCA is our promise. The two most powerful words in our mission are ‘for all.’ That means nobody gets turned away,” Cole said.
“Everyone in our community has access to the YMCA’s programs and services, from early education to after-school care, to summer camp, and more.”
There is still time to register, and plenty to look forward to at the finish line! Festivities include food trucks like Johnny B’s and Bridgeman’s, along with fun at Endion Station and games for friends and family to enjoy.
