Tech Bytes: Waymo plans to double its production in the U.S.
In today’s Tech Bytes, Waymo is ramping up production of its robotaxis. The company says it will use its new plant in Mesa, Arizona, to double output by the end of next year. It also plans to begin building its more advanced robotaxis at the same facility later this year.
OpenAI has reportedly agreed to acquire the AI-assisted coding tool Windsurf for $3 billion. If the deal goes through, it would be the company’s largest acquisition to date. For now, it will not affect how ChatGPT functions. OpenAI also announced that it will abandon its initial plan to become a for-profit company.
Finally, Major League Soccer is teaming up with video game maker Electronic Arts. The company’s mobile gaming platform will stream four MLS matches this season—two this month and two in September. It marks the first time EA will live stream a sporting event.
