Tips to prepare your taxes ahead of the deadline

The deadline to file your taxes is coming up on April 15th, so the time to file is now.

Barry Bigelow, with Great Waters Financial, said there are two mistakes people make when filing.

"One is just addition and subtraction," Bigelow said.  Data entry is the second mistake, so it's important to check you're entering it correctly so you don't lose your return.

Bigelow said you can file after the deadline, but you need to file an extension.

"However you can't pay late, so if you owe money, you have to pay by April 15th," Bigelow said.

If you're looking to make last-minute retirement deductions, Bigelow said you can do that.

He also recommends checking your withholdings for getting a better refund.
