Students across Duluth District showcase artwork

Duluth Public Schools district hosts 28th annual student art gallery outside Barnes and Noble in the Miller Hill Mall.

It is that time of year again, when Duluth Public Schools host their annual student art gallery. This is the 28th year of the gallery and the public is invited to view the work outside Barnes and Noble in the Miller Hill Mall. The gallery opened Tuesday and will continue through Tuesday, March 18.

The art showcase includes work from students across the district, with pieces created by kids in elementary to high school students. There will be a closing reception honoring the students work on March 18th, from 5pm-7pm.

“It’s really fun setting up for the day, because there’s not a person that comes through that just simply walks through,” Art teacher, James Carlson said.

This years Student Art Gallery features over 200 two-dimensional art creations and nearly 100 three-dimensional pieces. New this year will be Media Art that will be displayed on monitors.

“Everyone really gets drawn into the art,” Carlson said. “Cause people will look at work by maybe an elementary kid, and people are shocked that it is not some high school or middle school kid.”

There are nine elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools represented in the show.
