Minnesota fishing opener date updated

Created: April 06, 2021 10:14 AM

After a misprint in this year's Minnesota fishing regulations book - the DNR is trying to clear up confusion about the date of the fishing opener. The DNR says it is set for Saturday, May 15th.

Minnesota statute sets the opener on the Saturday two weeks before Memorial day weekend. This year, Memorial Day is the latest it can be on the calendar pushing the fishing opener to the latest weekend it can happen.

But good news for all the moms out there - this years fishing opener comes one week after Mother's Day weekend.
