MACT Festival is coming to Duluth!
MACT Fest 2025 is coming to The Depot in Duluth this March, bringing a celebration of community theater from across Minnesota.
“This is a 60-minute play festival that coincides with national and regional competitions,” said MACT Fest co-chair Joel Solkela. “We have nine shows, and two will advance to regionals in Iowa, with a chance to move on to nationals in Des Moines.”
While it’s a competition, Solkela describes it as a supportive environment. “We all want to win, but we cheer each other on,” he said. “Each production has strict time limits for setup, performance, and teardown—it’s a little stressful but exciting!”
This year features a mix of performances, including five original pieces, a musical, comedies, and dramas. “There’s something for everyone,” Solkela noted.
The festival also offers workshops on Shakespeare, improv, hair and makeup, and more. “It’s a great chance to learn, whether you’re an actor or behind the scenes,” he added.
Tickets are available at MACT.net, with options for full festival passes or individual shows. Don’t miss this exciting celebration of community theater!
