Chatting all things Navy Week with the Navy Band Fairwinds
Navy Week officially kicks off, bringing activities, education and fun performances to the Northland!
On Good Morning Northland, Lieutenant David Harbuziuk and Petty Officer Third Class Cameron West joined in studio to talk about what makes Navy Week so special, and why it means so much to them.
“It is a wonderful experience,” said Lt. Harbuziuk. “We get to represent the 330,000 sailors who are stationed around the world… and we get that hands-on interaction with the people. That’s just the best feeling in the world.”
The Navy Band Fairwinds, which performed live on the show, is just one part of the action. From STEM events and educational exhibits to the thrilling Blue Angels air show, Duluth is hosting over 100 events this week.
Petty Officer West shared a favorite Navy Band memory, a holiday performance that unexpectedly intersected with a new recruit arrival at boot camp. “We were performing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer when a group of recruits ran by,” he laughed. “The recruit division commander had to pull them into another room because he was trying so hard not to laugh.”
For those interested in a Navy career, there’s never been a better time. With over 150 career paths, from oceanography to music, the Navy offers unique opportunities to serve, and to connect.
