It was another successful year for WDIO and Second Harvest Norther Lakes Food Bank's "Have a Heart, Help a Neighbor" fundraiser.
On Friday, the event raised $9,695 in donations and 162 pounds of food. In total, 29,215 meals will be provided to our Northland neighbors in need, according to Second Harvest.
Over the years, "Have a Heart, Help a Neighbor", has raised 10,457 pounds of food, $147,233 and ensured 570,499 meals since inception back in 2004.
This was the 18th annual drive for the food bank on Good Morning Northland. For every dollar received, they are able to buy three meals.
"We're just really grateful for our partnership with WDIO, we're grateful for the community support, and you know we couldn't do our work without this type of event, especially at the holiday season," said Shaye Moris, Executive Director of Second Harvest.
Choirs from Denfeld High School, Ordean East Middle School, Marshall School, and Superior High School, as well as local band The Fish Heads, provided music to the event this year.
