US 53 improvement project underway in Superior

The US 53 improvement project in Superior started Monday, crews will resurface the road from 2nd Avenue East to Hughitt Avenue.

They will close a median a E Street, an area that has seen an above average amount of crashes. They will add turn bays instead.

They will also widen Lenroot Drive for two lanes, to accommodate two way traffic.

WisDOT says that US 53 will be open for the majority of the project, although motorist can expect lane closures.

The project also includes temporary fix was for the ramps to and from the Blatnik Bridge. So motorist can expect some closures of the ramps throughout the project. The Blatnik Bridge project is tentatively set to begin in October of 2026.

Governor Evers signed a nearly $4 million contract with Chippewa Concrete Services. This work is expected to last into October.
