Student convinces “confused” bus driver to pull over in Saginaw

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to the area of Highway 2 and Highway 33 in Saginaw after they received the report of a bus driver who was having difficulty maintaining his lane and appeared “to be confused and unsure about his location.” Authorities say that the caller was a 15-year-old on the bus who was able to convince the South Ridge School bus driver to pull over at a local store.

Deputies arrived shortly after that and determined that the driver was not impaired and did not seem to be impacted by a medical condition. He did, however, appear confused by his location and route according to responding medical personnel.

“South Ridge school officials were contacted and responded to the scene where they took custody of the 14 children remaining on the bus and contacted parents,” explained Sgt. Eric Sathers. “No one was injured as a result of this incident and no criminal charges will be filed.”

Sgt. Sathers continued that, at this time, it is unknown what caused the driver to become confused and disoriented. A “request for examination of driver” form will be sent to the Minnesota Dept. of Public Safety for review
